COMMUTING/CHAOS, 2012

This is a simulation of commuting patterns in Michigan. The data is taken from the US Census Bureau's Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics. The data provides census blocks for each commuters home and place of work. Since the data is based on IRS records and employment records some people appear to work hours away (i.e. in the case of telecommuters, or businesses with addresses registered in other counties, etc.). This data is still included. The 'commuters' were randomly given a time to leave for work in order to simulate an intensification in commuting around rush hour. It looks best in full screen. If the video does not work a low-res version can seen be here.
